چکیده

Methods Rheology Discovery DHR-2 rotational rheometer (TA Instruments, USA) was used for investigation of rheological properties of the solutions under steady-state shear deformation. Cone-plate geometry with diameter of 40 mm and the angle at cone tip of 1° was applied. All tests have been carried out at 23 °C. HRSEM and cryo-HRSEM A single fiber was collected onto a specially designed SEM sample holder comprising a conducting trench and was adhered to the sides of the trench. In order to compare between the dry and the swollen state of the fibers, we performed RT HR-SEM imaging prior to cryo HR-SEM imaging. For cryo-SEM specimen preparation, as spun fibers were immersed into water at predetermined pH. After 3 min of swelling, the water excess was removed with a filter paper, and the sample was quenched into liquid ethane at its freezing temperature. After vitrification the sample holder was mounted onto a sample-table for cryo-HR-SEM imaging (Leica AG. Liechtenstein), and was transferred Electronic Supplementary Material (ESI) for Soft Matter.

Electrospinning polyelectrolyte complexes: pH-responsive fibers.

Fibers were electrospun from a solution comprised of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes, in efforts to achieve highly confined macromolecular packaging. A stoichiometric ratio of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) and poly(acrylic acid) solution was mixed in an ethanol-water co-solvent. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis of electrospun fibers demonstrated no indication of glass trans...

Electrospinning Pullulan Fibers from Salt Solutions

There is an increasing interest in applying the technology of electrospinning for making ultrafine fibers from biopolymers for food-grade applications, and using pullulan (PUL) as a carrier to improve the electrospinnability of proteins and other naturally occurring polyelectrolytes. In this study, PUL solutions containing NaCl or Na3C6H5O7 at different concentrations were electrospun. The incl...

Reorganization of hydrogen bond network makes strong polyelectrolyte brushes pH-responsive

Weak polyelectrolytes have found extensive practical applications owing to their rich pH-responsive properties. In contrast, strong polyelectrolytes have long been regarded as pH-insensitive based on the well-established fact that the average degree of charging of strong polyelectrolyte chains is independent of pH. The possible applications of strong polyelectrolytes in smart materials have, th...

Interfacial adsorption of pH-responsive polymers and nanoparticles.

Using dissipative particle dynamics (DPD), we model the interfacial adsorption of pH-responsive polyelectrolytes and polyelectrolyte-grafted nanoparticles (PNPs) at a planar water-oil interface. The electrostatic interactions in the presence of the dielectric discontinuity across the interface are modeled by exploiting the Groot method, which uses an iterative method to solve the Poisson equati...

Transient charge-masking effect of applied voltage on electrospinning of pure chitosan nanofibers from aqueous solutions.

The processing of a polyelectrolyte (whose functionality is derived from its ionized functional groups) into a nanofiber may improve its functionality and yield multiple functionalities. However, the electrospinning of nanofibers from polyelectrolytes is imperfect because polyelectrolytes differ considerably from neutral polymers in their rheological properties. In our study, we attempt to solv...
